Time is Running Out! Proclaim Jesus
  • undreds of thousands of people around the world are dying everyday without having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.  And that means all of them go to hell for eternity.  Those of us who are followers of the Savior have the responsibility to proclaim Jesus who alone can keep people from eternal death.  We can share this good news in many different ways.
  • ere at Ethiopian Outreach Ministry, a great number of people have done just that in ways that look simple.  Indeed, it is simple.  What matters is where our hearts are.  The more we care about the lost souls and God's expectation of us to share His good news, the stronger our commitment will be to the Kingdom's agenda.
  • n this Issue of News & Views, we will share with you different ways God's people have been involved in the effort of proclaiming the Good News to Ethiopians all over the world.  Remember, when we have more people involved, the proclamation of the good news can go to places where no one can believe it will.  An Ethiopian from one of the remotest corners of Ethiopia once wrote us, "It amazes me how God comforts us and help us understand Him better through you the servants of the Lord at EOM.  Your twice-weekly radio program is our primary source of spiritual nourishment. Your radio broadcast also attracts many nonbelievers because it is so practical and offers solutions from the scriptures in a very practical way.  May the Lord bless you and those who support you for being the hands and the feet of God who came to us with the precious word of God."

What a blessing we can be to others and receive blessings from the Lord for obeying His command.
Dick and
Glenda
Naylor
Through the years, Dick has been an encouragement to Brother Melese and a prayer warrior for the Ministry.  Dick has designed and has been maintaining EOM's website which is already reaching thousands of Ethiopians in over twenty countries.  He dedicated a great deal of his time, talent and resources to make sure that Jesus is proclaimed among Ethiopians wherever they live.  His passion and commitment to spread the gospel "to the end of the earth" is already bearing fruit among Ethiopians.  EOM has been able to reach to Ethiopians in countries where we could not send Christian literature or tapes.  We also received e-mails from believers who live in many European countries who found our site and been blessed by the teachings we provide via the internet.  All this is possible because of the involvement of our brother Dick.  May the Lord bless our brother and his wife, Glenda for their love to serve the almighty God.

Friends of EOM at PRINTING EXPRESS - YORK
Our friends at Printing Express have done so much for the Lord's work at EOM in many significant ways.  From doing an excellent job on our publicvation to the timely and friendly service they have provided, they have proven their dedication to help God's
work from their heart.  Special thanks to Rick who always looks for ways to help the ministry by providing services and goods with substantial savings.  To mention one example of their effort to making a difference in the Kingdom work, Rick looked into the need of the ministry for a paper cutter and found a used one for a reasonable price.  Then he and his colleague Diego spent hours sweating to haul the cutter that weighs 600+ pounds to our second floor office.  EOM and the staff is very grateful for their charitable contribution through the years.

Marilyn Brown is the editor of this publication.  We have been blessed by the special gift of Marilyn who makes our News & Views easily readable to our American and English reading partners.  On top of this valuable contribution, Marilyn is a prayer warrior for EOM along with Sharon Gladfelter, David Snyder and Cindy Kalinoski.  These partners are always behind the scene regularly engaged in intercessory prayer.  Marilyn loves Ethiopians and has special place in her heart for them.

Mike Beckmyer is one of the few brothers the Lord added to the team of helpers at EOM.  Mike's conscious effort to make a difference in the proclamation of God's word is very valuable.  Fom his busy schedule,
Mike joyfully shares a good chunk of his time to maintain the computers we use at EOM.  He makes sure we won't have any technical problems that may hinder or slow down the proclamation of the gospel and the production of Christian literature that help believers grow in their faith.

These few brothers and sisters are mentioned only to show what kind of impact we can have when we present to the Lord whatever we have, our time, talent, knees that kneel before God, needed materials and money.

God has given each and every one of us a gift to serve Him wiht.  Whatever that gift may be, let us invest it in the eternal bank where it will multiply beyond a man-made calculator can manage to compute.

"For it will be as when a man going on a journey called his servants and entrusted to them his property;  to one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one, to each according to his ability.  Then he went away.  He who had received the five talents went at once and traded them; and he made five talents more.  So also, he who had the two talents made two talents more.  But he who had received the one talent went and dug in the ground and hid his master's money.  Now after a long time the master of theose servants came and settled accounts with them.  And he who had received the five talents came forward, bringing  five talents more, saying, 'Master you delivered to me five talents; here I have made five talents more.'  His master said to him 'Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a little, I will set you over much; enter into the joy of your master.'  And he also who had the two talents came forward saying, 'Master, you delivered to me two talents; here I have made two talents more.'  His master said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a little, I will set you over much; enter into the joy of you master.'            Matt 25: 14-23 (RSV)

Can You Help the Lord's Work Please?
Our various publication of Bible study materials, tracts and flyers require different kinds of folding.  We are looking for a paper folding machine that will enable us to be more productive while saving hundreds of dollars on folding costs.
After researching on price, efficiency and durability, we chose the one you see in the picture on the right.  The cost is $3,995. (DUPLO DF-520 automatic setting folder)
So far $780 is contributerd by four people.   We still need eight people who can commit $100 per month for just four months (or a one- time gift of $400) to cover this cost.
When you send your special contribution, please designate your checks by writing "Folding Machine"on the memo line of your check or money order.

Mission Accomplished

Every summer, brother Melese travels to countries where Ethiopians reside in small and large numbers. Last July and August, he spent twenty-six days in the Middle East countries of Yemen and Lebanon. Many of you prayed for this trip - for brother Melese’s safety and for a great harvest.  We want you to know that the Lord answered your prayers.

At the Altar Call in Beirut Ethiopian Church

There was no major glitch on the travel schedule and Rev. Wogu was able to manage adjusting between the extremely hot weather of the gulf of Eden and the mild one in Lebanon.
In the numerous evangelistic meetings held in Beirut, many Ethiopians surrendered their life to Jesus.  Many more who had run away from the Lord turned their face back to the Savior with repentance.

Life for many Ethiopians in Beirut is very difficult. They live in distress due to the conditions they live in.  Brother Melese’s trip was timely because many needed to hear the comforting word of God.  The message that brother Melese shared was that God uses whatever circumstance we are in for His Glory and for our growth in faith.  Praise the Lord for those who found comfort in the eternal word of God. Thank you partners for being instrumental in helping many Ethiopians find the way of eternal life and comfort in His word.

News Briefs
  • The second biannual fund raising Ethiopian Dinner was held on Saturday, October 14, 2000 at Salunga Eastern Mennonite Board of Missions Fellowship Hall.  Various entries of authentic Ethiopian cuisine were served. For pictures of the banquet held in May click here.  Pictures of the October banquet will be available in future issues.
  • The latest book by brother Melese, “Gifts of the Holy Spirit: Identification and Proper Application” is now being distributed in North America and Europe.  Printing process in Ethiopia will take a few more weeks before the book is released for distribution.  Continue praying that the necessary funding for publication and distribution of this book in Ethiopia and in African countries will come.
  • Brother Melese’s trip to the two countries in the Middle East has been fruitful.  Many came to know the Lord and rededicate their life, leaving behind their sinful ways.  By the request of the elders of the Ethiopian church, brother Melese appointed a pastor for the church.  An extensive study on Church Conflict management was conducted and many have benefited from it.  Potential problems were dealt with before they occur so that the body of Christ may grow stronger in love and unity.
  • Many Ethiopians gave their life to the Lord in Yemen and in Lebanon.  Brother Melese baptized seventy new believers in Beirut just in one day.  Hours of individual and group counseling sessions helped many believers and non believers to fully surrender their life to the Lord.  Praise be to God!

To the producers of Mirror of Life,

May you have peace and health in abundance.
I am a weak Christian who hasn't been able to pray, fast and read the Bible as I should have for the last three years. I am confident that you would pray for me and send me an encouraging letter if I tell you in detail the reason for my spiritual weakness.

For eleven years, I was growing in my faith and serving in the church. About three years ago I was suddenly removed from my ministry in the church for an indefinite period. The decision was made based on one issue.  A couple of brothers accused me of not repaying part of the money I borrowed from them.

My wife and I were saddened that those we trusted the most would do this to us.  Although we assured them that we would pay what we owe, the church leaders sided with the brothers and barred me from serving in the church. We cried before the Lord believing all things work out for good. Taking the opportunity of our position, the enemy attacked my wife with sickness that lasted for three months. Before I could get out of debt I was forced to get into more debt trying to get treatment for my wife. During the trying times of my wife's illness, none of my brothers and sisters from my church came to see how we were doing.  No one even bothered to visit my wife in her long hospital stay.  The church completely forgot about us. This raised  major questions in my heart.  Is this what Christianity is or is it how Christians should act towards their brother or sister?  Gradually I became a frustrated man looking into every possibility to run away from my town and look for a way to support my family.

My family has already rejected me because of my faith and my mom who used to help me passed away.  I felt there is no where to go.  So I made a decision to leave my wife and children and to go to another country. I went to see a non-believer friend of mine to discuss this matter with him. While at his house I came across the Bible study material titled 'Yehiwot Mestawat" (Mirror of Life) by brother Melese Wogu. The topic of the particular issue reads: "To find answers to our questions let us draw closer to God ".  After reading the material I was convicted and at the same time comforted by the teachings of brother Melese. I blessed the producers of the material. I almost deserted my family and run away from my troubles instead of getting closer to the Lord and let Him know that I needed His help.

Please pray for me and send me more of the Bible studies you prepare. Please pray also for the church in our country that lacks ruling over believers with love and tenderness.  Removing brothers and sisters from serving the Lord in the church for minor offenses without admonishing, counseling or praying for them first has ALMOST become common. Only the Lord knows the number of brothers who have gone back to the world because of harsh treatments in the churches.

Thank you again for reaching out to many of us with the practical teachings of the scriptures.

    Sincerely,
    L.M.

Dear servants of God at EOM,

Just e-mailing to say what a great job you are doing on the web site. I became a born again Christian here in London, England, and it is very encouraging to see your web site and the audio broadcast you offer on the site.  Keep up the good work.

    ………….

Dear servants of the Lord at Ethiopian Outreach Ministry,

We are writing to tell you how much we appreciate your ministry. As part of the Youth Ministry in our church, we have a burden to reach out to the large population of youth in our town. We found your tracts to be one of the most effective tools to witness Jesus because the tracts are written in a practical life application style. They communicate the truth directly and lovingly. Thank you for making our outreach effort so effective. Together, we continue to fulfil the Lord’s command proclaiming the gospel to all mankind.

The Latest Book by Brother Melese...
We invite you to join your brothers and sisters in making a valuable book available to thousands of Ethiopians around the world.
Brother Wogu's newest book titled "GIFTS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT-IDENTIFICATION AND PROPER APPLICATION" attempts to answer the questions of the many Ethiopian believers who have been confused by  teachings based on experience rather than Scripture. Since we announced the publication of this book, many have responded with great excitement, because it will help the church to refocus on the basics of Christianity by rooting believers in the Word of God.
The book already received great reviews from the brothers and sisters who did extensive editing on the book.  Many of those in church leadership positions have great hope that the contents of this book will help thousands of believers in the Ethiopian church around the world.
We need your help to publish this book in large quantity.  It costs just 65 cents to print one book in Ethiopia.  Seven believers can have access to this book without needing to copy hundreds of pages by hand - just for the price of one visit to a fast food restaurant!  In the past, believers hand-copied hundreds of pages from brother Melese's books because they could not afford to buy one.
Your contribution of US$ 65.00 enables us to produce 100 books. A gift of US$ 130.00 will print 200 books. That is about 35 cents per day. Imagine providing a nutritious spiritual meal for two hundred people with such a small amount! No other investment can have such a huge return.  Five hundred Ethiopians can have this book for a contribution of $260.00.  How about making the printing of 1000 books for a contribution of $650 a project for your church or friends?
We encourage you to get involved in this worthwhile project individually or through your church missions committees, Sunday school classes, or growth groups. Let us come together and make a difference.  Share with your friends and churches about this project. For more information on this project, please contact us by regular mail, phone, fax or e-mail.

AUTHENTIC ETHIOPIAN DINNER – BENEFITING THE LORD’S WORK AT EOM
Ethiopian Dinner Banquet that was held on Saturday, October 14, 2000 was successful.  We thank those of you who came and showed us your support with your encouragement and generous financial gifts. We also want to thank our friends who were not able to come to the dinner but sent in their financial support.  We had friends come to the dinner as far as from Virginia and Maryland.  We also received support from friends of the  ministry who live as far as Florida and the States of Washington. What a commitment! Thank you all for making a difference in the life of thousands of Ethiopians by enabling EOM to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ. May the Lord bless you abundantly.
